Repetition to the Point of Boredom

Repetition to the point of boredom seems to have become the current trend in modern music.
Love ya, love ya baby, repeated about sixteen times
and then a chug-a-chug instrumental break (repeated four times, minimum) and then Love ya, love ya baby repeated sixteen times more
Or, drop the vocals and just play the chug-a-chug-a rhythm track for about three minutes over and over and over
Maybe add in some sound effects here and there
but basically it's just chug-a-chug-a
What is that?
Remember when songs were about something?
Here comes Uncle John's band...
Morning, Morgan Town...
Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins...
okokok
I'm 62 years old, and I know that makes me a geezer
and I can find the classic rock station, and they play Sunshine of Your Love and Stairway to Heaven and maybe once in awhile some Stevie Ray Vaughn and Janis Joplin
and I can go on cable and find the Swing channel, Count Basie and a lot of Frank Sinatra and some Ella Fitzgerald
but the music that gets played on the radio today is, frankly, crap.
How many times can I say this, how many times can I say this, how many times can I say this, how many times can I say this? Crap crap crap crap crap. (chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a)
And we'll be back in a minute.
